Childbirth, Childcare and Nursing Care Support Systems
So that expectant mothers can prepare for childbirth with peace of mind, Bayer pays salaries
for the time when such employees are receiving regular medical checks during pregnancy and also
provides 3 days of paid morning sickness leave. In addition, all 6 weeks of leave prior to
childbirth and all 8 weeks of leave after childbirth are treated as paid leave and the bonuses
corresponding to that period are also paid in full. Furthermore, employees can also receive
about 400,000 yen as a childbirth benefit from the Bayer Group health insurance association for the
payment of childbirth expenses.
Childcare is not something that only women do. Bayer has a childcare leave system as
support for childcare and both male and female employees can take leave under it. Also,
employees can return to work if they find a child care center for their children, but at Bayer,
employees can take childcare leave to the end of the first March after their child turns 2 years
old, which is longer than the period for childcare designated by law. (For example, in the
case of a child born in May, an employee could take childcare leave for a maximum of 2 years and 10
months.)
For example, there will be times after an employee returns to work when it will not be
possible to leave their child at the childcare center because the child has suddenly developed a
fever, etc. Bayer allows 5 days of paid nursing care leave each year. In addition,
there is also an optional short-time work system with work for a minimum of 4 hours a day, which
can be used at the longest until the completion of the child’s 3rd year of elementary school.
Employees can take nursing care leave for a maximum period of 1 year.
In addition, if an employee uses a nursing care facility provided by the members’ benefit
club that Bayer is contracted to, the employee can receive assistance of 40,000 yen per month.
